Engineering lab for connected products

From the circuit board to the call screen, one team builds it all.

We build the software inside connected products: VoIP and video calling, embedded firmware, custom Android (AOSP) and native apps for Android, iOS and Windows. One team takes your device from board bring-up to the app store.

  • NDA from the first conversation
  • Full source code handover
  • Direct access to the engineers

// Services

Four strengths, one engineering team

Hire us for one layer or for the whole product. Either way, the engineers who scope your project are the ones who build it.

VoIP & Real-Time Communication

Voice and video that holds up on real networks, from the SIP server to the softphone.

  • SIP servers, IP-PBX and softswitch builds on Asterisk, FreeSWITCH and Kamailio
  • WebRTC voice and video, and SIP–WebRTC gateways
  • Softphone SDKs and dialers for mobile and desktop
  • Media tuning: codecs, echo cancellation, jitter, SRTP/TLS
  • Interop testing and call-quality debugging

Good fit if calls drop on some networks, you need your own branded softphone, or your PBX is moving to the cloud.

Embedded Systems

Firmware and embedded Linux that boot fast, run lean and keep working in the field.

  • Board bring-up, BSPs, bootloaders and device drivers
  • Embedded Linux with Yocto and Buildroot
  • Microcontroller firmware on FreeRTOS and Zephyr
  • Connectivity: BLE, Wi-Fi, LTE, CAN, Modbus
  • OTA updates, secure boot and field diagnostics

Good fit if you have a new board to bring up, firmware that is hard to update, or devices that fail in the field.

AOSP & Android Platform

Custom Android for devices that aren't phones: handhelds, kiosks, intercoms, panels.

  • AOSP customization and builds for your hardware
  • HAL, kernel and vendor integration
  • System apps, kiosk launchers and device policy
  • Android version upgrades and security-patch maintenance
  • OTA pipelines and CTS/VTS readiness

Good fit if you are building an Android device, are stuck on an old Android version, or need a locked-down kiosk.

Android, iOS & Windows Apps

Native apps that talk to your hardware and feel right on every platform.

  • Native Android (Kotlin) and iOS (Swift) apps
  • Windows desktop apps: .NET, WinUI/WPF, C++
  • Device companion apps over BLE, Wi-Fi and USB
  • VoIP calling apps with CallKit and ConnectionService
  • Store releases, CI/CD and ongoing maintenance

Good fit if your device needs an app, your app needs calling, or one product must run on three platforms.

// Expertise

One lab, every layer

Most connected products pass through four separate teams before they ship: hardware bring-up, the operating system, calling and media, and the apps. Every handoff costs weeks, and bugs bounce between teams.

At Randela Labs one team owns the whole path. When a call drops, we trace it from the app, through the SIP stack and the Android framework, down to the audio driver, and fix it where it starts.

Select a layer to see what we do there.

Apps

Android, iOS and Windows apps for end users, installers and operators: calling, device setup, monitoring and control.

  • Kotlin, Swift, C#/.NET
  • BLE / Wi-Fi provisioning
  • CallKit & ConnectionService

Example: a SIP video door phone, built by one team

This is how one product touches every layer. With one team, each step is designed knowing what the next one needs.

  1. 01 · Hardware

    Bring up the board

    Camera, audio codec, Ethernet and the door-relay output working on the custom board.

  2. 02 · Embedded OS

    Boot fast, update safely

    A lean Linux or Android base with secure boot and over-the-air updates.

  3. 03 · Android platform

    Lock it down

    A kiosk-style launcher, a HAL for the door relay and settings visitors can't change.

  4. 04 · VoIP & media

    Make calls reliable

    SIP video calling with echo cancellation, tuned for weak Wi-Fi and busy networks.

  5. 05 · Apps

    Answer from anywhere

    Android and iOS apps to see who's there, talk, open the door and check the history.

What we build

SIP video intercoms

Door phones and access panels with an AOSP or Linux core, a SIP stack and a resident app.

Rugged Android devices

Handhelds, POS terminals and kiosks running locked-down custom Android.

IoT gateways + companion apps

Embedded Linux gateways with mobile and desktop apps for setup and control.

Softphones & UC clients

One calling experience across Android, iOS and Windows, backed by your PBX.

// How we work

From first call to field updates

A clear plan, early proof on real hardware and a demo every week, so you always know where the project stands.

  1. 01

    Discover

    We review your hardware, requirements and constraints, and agree what success looks like.

    You get an architecture, a risk list and an estimate you can plan around.

  2. 02

    Prototype

    We prove the hardest part first on real devices: the first call, the first boot, the first sensor reading.

    You get a working proof on your own hardware.

  3. 03

    Build

    Short sprints with a demo every week, automated builds and testing on real hardware, not just emulators.

    You get tested releases and access to the full source.

  4. 04

    Ship & sustain

    Production hardening, over-the-air rollout, security patches and maintenance after launch.

    You get a support plan that fits your release cycle.

// Industries

Where our work runs

Different sectors, one shared need: devices that call, connect and update reliably for years.

  • Telecom & UC

    PBX platforms, softphones and contact-centre clients that must work with many carriers and handsets.

  • Smart home & security

    Video intercoms, access control and alarm panels, where every call and door-open has to work first time.

  • Industrial IoT

    Gateways, HMIs and field devices that run unattended for years and update safely over the air.

  • Healthcare devices

    Nurse-call systems, patient terminals and connected instruments built for reliability.

  • Retail & logistics

    POS terminals, rugged handhelds and kiosk fleets that are managed remotely at scale.

  • Automotive & transport

    In-vehicle Android, fleet telematics and driver apps that cope with patchy connectivity.

// Why Randela Labs

Engineers first, from first call to last commit

We're a lab, not an agency. We like hard problems close to the hardware, and we stay with them until they're solved.

Talk to an engineer

Hardware in the loop

We test on your actual boards and devices, so issues surface in the lab instead of the field.

Direct engineer access

No account-manager relay. You talk to the people writing the code.

Your IP, your code

An NDA from the first conversation and full source handover at every milestone.

Built to be maintained

Documentation, CI pipelines and support plans, so the product outlives the project.

// FAQ

Questions clients ask first

Can you work with our existing hardware and code?

Yes. Most projects start from a board, an Android build or an app that already exists. We begin with a short review, so the plan builds on what you have instead of starting over.

Who owns the source code?

You do. We work under an NDA from the first conversation and hand over the full source code, build scripts and documentation at every milestone.

Can we hire you for just one layer?

Yes. You can bring us in for VoIP, embedded, AOSP or apps alone, or for the whole product. Many clients start with one layer and add more once they have seen the work.

How do you work with teams in other time zones?

We agree a daily overlap window, demo progress every week and keep tickets, code and builds in shared tools, so you can follow the work between calls.

What happens after launch?

We can stay on for security patches, Android and OS upgrades, over-the-air releases and new features, under a support plan sized to your release cycle.

How do we get started?

Send a short description of your product, platform and timeline. An engineer replies with questions, and we agree the scope of a first phase together.

// Start a project

Tell us what you're building

Send a few lines about your product: the hardware, the platform, your timeline and where you're stuck. An engineer will reply with next steps.

  • Email randela.labs@gmail.com
  • Good first message "We have an i.MX8 board and need a SIP intercom app on custom Android."
What happens next
  1. An engineer reads your message and replies with questions.
  2. A short call about your hardware, platform and timeline.
  3. A written proposal with scope, plan and estimate.
